Key Scientific Study Offers Potential Treatment Option for Postmenopausal Osteoporosis
San Francisco – November 8, 2007 - Synarc Inc., the world's leading provider of medical image analysis, biochemical marker, and clinical research center recruitment services to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, announced that it has played a major role in assessing the efficacy and safety of the compound risedronate.
According to an article in the September issue of Bone, results from a new Phase III study of risedronate for the treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis look promising. The study concluded that during one year of treatment taking 150 mg of the compound orally once a month is similar in efficacy and safety to daily oral dosing and may provide an alternative for patients who have difficulty or dislike taking a pill every day.
"Adherence to long-term therapy is a challenge for treating many chronic diseases and osteoporosis is no exception," said Thomas Fuerst, Ph.D., Scientific Director for Osteoporosis at Synarc. "Pharmaceutical companies are addressing this issue by developing more convenient methods for taking these drugs. If approved, monthly oral risedronate along with already approved drugs for less frequent oral or intravenous administrations will give patients and their physicians more options when deciding on their osteoporosis therapy."
Synarc's full range of services was a major factor in the success of the double-blind study that screened 2,221 women. Synarc has been instrumental in standardizing quality-control programs for osteoporosis clinical trials and epidemiological studies. Synarc has conducted over 100 osteoporosis studies around the world.
Since 1998, Synarc has contributed to the approval of more leading compounds, across a broad spectrum of therapeutic areas, than any other central imaging provider.
