Synarc’s Neurology Team to Present at International Alzheimer’s Conference

San Francisco – February 13, 2008 - Synarc Inc., the world's leading provider of medical image analysis, biochemical marker, and clinical research center recruitment services to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, announced that Joyce Suhy, Ph.D., Scientific Director, Neurology Clinical Trials Services, and Wan Chi Lau, Neurology Image Analysis Manager, will be presenting a poster at the 10th International Hong Kong/Springfield Pan-American Symposium on Advances in Alzheimer Therapy. The conference is February 28 to March 1.

The poster, entitled, “REPRODUCIBILITY AND ACCURACY OF WHOLE BRAIN ATROPHY AND HIPPOCAMPAL VOLUME USING MULTI-CENTER MRI FOR ALZHEIMER TRIAL” will be presented at what is considered one of the preeminent conferences focused on the treatment and research of Alzheimer’s disease. Joonmi Oh, Ph.D., Neurology Product Manager, led the design of this research project and provided scientific oversight. .

Dr. Suhy has authored numerous journal articles and book chapters in both neurology and oncology. She leads the design and scientific oversight of clinical trials managed by Synarc in these therapeutic areas and provides technical training to Synarc staff involved in these studies. Dr. Suhy has also participated on several expert panels to advance the use of imaging in clinical trials.

Dr. Oh has authored numerous journal articles in image compression and quantitative image analysis for neuro-degenerative disease and brain tumor. She leads the development of the analysis software which can detect subtle brain morphological changes for large-scale Alzheimer disease trials and mentors image analysis team.

Ms Lau majored in Cognitive Neuroscience and has worked with Synarc for over 3 years. She manages the image analysis team and oversees the training, validation and quality assurance of all Synarc neurology readings.

In addition, Synarc has joined the Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI) Industry Scientific Advisory Board (ISAB). The overall goal of the ADNI is to develop improved methods for standardizing longitudinal, multi-site MRI and PET data on patients with Alzheimer's disease, mild cognitive impairment, and elderly controls, and to provide a large database intended to improve the design of clinical trials in these areas.

Synarc’s involvement in the ADNI will help to bring these improved imaging biomarker methods into clinical trial use faster since Synarc continues to participate in greater than 90% of all pivotal trials in this area.

Synarc has managed 22 clinical trials relating to Alzheimer’s disease that include imaging endpoints.
