Synarc Co-Founder Authors Book on Advanced Imaging Technologies

San Francisco – December 4, 2007 - Synarc Inc., the world's leading provider of medical image analysis, biochemical marker, and clinical research center services to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, announced that co-founder and board member, Harry K. Genant, M.D. has co-authored a book on the status of advanced medical imaging technologies with an emphasis on evaluation of  bone quality.

The book, entitled "Advanced Bio-imaging Technologies in Assessment of the Quality of Bone and Scaffold Materials" provides a platform for multidisciplinary collaborations in education and joint research and development among various professions, including biomedical engineering, biomaterials, and basic and clinical medicine. It is written for physicians, clinical and materials scientists, bioengineers, technologists and postgraduate students.

Dr. Genant has edited or co-edited more than 30 text books, authored or co-authored more than 200 chapters and invited articles, over 500 peer-reviewed articles in scientific and medical journals, and over 1000 abstracts presented at national and international scientific and professional gatherings. He is on the editorial boards of Osteoporosis International, and the Journal of Clinical Densitometry, and is an Associate Editor of Bone.

Dr. Genant received his medical degree from Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois, and completed his internship at the Osler Medical Service at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. He completed his residency training in Medicine and in Radiology at the University of Chicago, after which he was appointed Chief of Musculoskeletal Radiology at UCSF for over 30 years.  Dr. Genant founded the Osteoporosis and Arthritis Research Group (OARG) in the Department of Radiology at UCSF in 1986, and served as its Executive Director. The OARG was widely acclaimed as a leading source of research in noninvasive imaging methods applied to osteoporosis, arthritis and orthopedics.

Genant recently wrote a chapter on Radiology of Osteoporosis for the third edition of the book "Osteoporosis." Synarc co-founders Kenneth Faulkner, Ph.D., Michael McClung, M.D., and Pierre Delmas, Ph.D., M.D., also contributed to the publication. McClung wrote on "Who Should be Screened: Who Should be Treated?"; Faulkner on "Clinical Use of Bone Densitometry," and Delmas on "Biochemical Markers of Bone Turnover in Osteoporosis."
