Phil S. Schein, M.D., F.R.C.P.
Chief, CCBR-SYNARC Scientific Advisory Committee in Oncology


Dr. Phil S. Schein is Chief of CCBR-SYNARC’s Scientific Advisory Committee in Oncology. Dr. Schein is widely recognized as a leading authority in the treatment of cancer. He is currently the President of the Schein Group, and Visiting Professor in Cancer Pharmacology, University of Oxford. He founded and was the former Chairman and CEO of U.S. Bioscience, a pharmaceutical company focused on developing new therapeutic agents for cancer and AIDs. Prior to that, he served as Vice President of Worldwide Clinical Research and Development at SmithKline & French Laboratories and Scientific Director of the Vincent T. Lombardi Cancer Research Center.

Dr. Schein also served as President Clinton’s appointee to the National Cancer Advisory Board. He was the President of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and chaired the Food and Drug Administration's Oncologic Drugs Advisory Committee. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the American Board of Internal Medicine, and chaired its Medical Oncology Committee. He was also the Senior Investigator and Head of the Clinical Pharmacology Section of the Medicine Branch of the National Cancer Institute at National Institute of Health. Dr. Schein received his Medical Doctorate from Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, New York and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons at Glasgow.
