Anwar R. Padhani, M.D., Ph.D.
Associate Medical Director, Oncology

Dr. Anwar R. Padhani is Associate Medical Director of Oncology at CCBR-Synarc. He is an internationally recognized oncological/MRI radiologist and currently the clinical lead in MRI and head of imaging research at the Paul Strickland Scanner Centre, Mount Vernon Cancer Centre, London.

Dr. Padhani qualified in medicine at Kasturba Medical College, India in 1985. After studying general medicine at Cambridge, he undertook 5 years of radiological training (Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge; Guys Hospital, London; and John Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, USA). Dr. Padhani was on the faculty of the Institute of Cancer Research, London as the CRC senior lecturer and held an honorary consultant radiologist position at the Royal Marsden Hospital, London for 6 years (1994-2000).

He was involved in the development of innovative research programs investigating functional MRI on the microenvironment of human tumors, and has performed numerous clinical research studies evaluating tumor perfusion, permeability, hypoxia and water diffusion imaging of breast, brain, rectal and prostate cancers as well as MRI studies of antiangiogenic and antivascular treatments.

Dr. Padhani has published chapters in 20 textbooks, 35 journal reviews, and published over 47 scientific articles in peer reviewed journals. Dr Padhani has given over 70 invited lectures at national and international meetings including plenary talks on angiogenesis and hypoxia imaging. He is deputy editor of the British Journal of Radiology and has co-edited the book “Advances in Oncologic Imaging Techniques” (Taylor & Francis, New York). He has also edited the “Guidelines for cross-sectional imaging in cancer management” (Royal College of Radiologist, UK).

Dr. Anwar R. Padhani can be reached by phone at +44.1923.844.751 and email at Anwar.Padhani@Synarc.com
